Adobe InDesign CS5 Tutorials

In preperation for creating the layout of my Marketing Report, I have been watching some Tutorials for InDesign CS5. These have been helpful and will likely become invaluable at times of pressure during the actual making of the report!

Browser Apps

As part of my promotional campaign, my Lecturer has suggested that I create a Browser App. Personally, I do not know much information about these but I have found this helpful video from Google which shares some basic but insightful information into what they are and how they can be used.

Mickey Mouse Videos

Due to the scheme being developed into 'Maths with Mickey' (due to the primary research which has taken place within local Primary Schools and an Online Survey), I have been looking into Mickey Mouse's activities, humour and personality towards Children. This will help with the designing of the Lessons and their themes as well as the video content for the Pupil's website.

Promethean Interactive Whiteboards

Again, this video shows the Interactive elements which are used for 'Teaching and Learning' rather than just 'Technology'.

A range of great tools are available which can be used as inspiration for the Interactive Lessons to be created for this educational scheme.

As well as this, 'ActivInspire' is a form of software from Promethean which beings all these elements to every Interactive Whiteboard as it can be used on all Windows, Mac and Linux machines. I will likely base my Interactive Lesons on the use of ActivInspire as it allows all the selected Schools to be able to use my Scheme without any extra cost (due to having a free trial).

Looking at Interactive Lessons

This video shows some capabilities of Interactive Whiteboards. I have seen similar elements being used in Lessons during my Primary Research in Schools, so videos like these can also build on ideas for the creation of the Interactive Lessons for this scheme.

Sesame Street Song - 9 Pigeons

This is a video which promotes children to count. I believe the music and verbal language is fast and likely to be quite difficult for pre-school children (Sesame Street's target audience) to understand. 

The illustrations are great though and the video is fairly comical so it is likely to entertain children either way.

Sesame Street Workshop - Primary Colours

As shown in my written research folders under the competitors scheme section, Sesame Street have educational resources. I am going to show a selection of videos that are available for parents, teachers and children alike.

This is a great video for teaching primary colours in an entertaining way...

Disney Store Times Square Grand Opening

I feel this video encapusulates what Disney is about to children and fans all over the world. They put on a show of entertainment for all, young and old, using creativity throughout. In my opinion, tthe energy of the brand, what they want to portray to its audience, is shown throughout the viral.

Bill Clinton pushes A+ program in Arkansas, USA

Even though this is based in the USA, this is a great example of how a key speaker can see the benefits of implementing creativity within the usual subjects in schools, such as Maths and Science. The noted benefits are an increase in attendance, decrease of 'drop out' rate and also a decrease in behaviour referalls.

Disney's Science Classes

Disney School House Rock video

Since my last posts, I have decided to create an Educational Programme with Disney in the UK. This will be piloted first in a chosen area with the vision to expand nationally if the scheme is very successful. The development of my ideas can be seen in my research folders and my accompanying Time Log blog.

This video above is taken from Disney's Educational Productions program based in the USA aimed for 4-18 year old students. This particular video is from the School House Rock range which is sold to be suitable for 4-15 year old students. However, I feel it is more appropriate for 7-10 year old students as the information is sung to the viewer, which I feel is quite immature to be showing to 15 year old students. However, it is an example of the current videos shown to children using this programme in the USA.

Lego Education Pack 2010

This viral showcases what was included in the Educational Pack in 2010 available for schools to purchase. The viral also describes which areas of science/design are covered within the Pack, such as, Forces, Motion and Measurement.

BRIO Education

I have found a series of virals which advertise the latest collection of BRIO railway toys, one of these virals is shown above. I feel they are great at showing the new toys in an imaginative form, creating a 'role play' world for children and parents alike. I could take such virals as inspiration for making a viral myself as part of my visual work.

Sir Ken Robinson - Changing Education Paradigms

This is the illustrated version of Sir Ken Robinson's Changing Education Paradigms Lecture, 2010. The video is long but demonstrates some key points which relate to creativity (or Divergent Thinking) within children and how this declines through Education. I have written key notes which can be seen in my research folder. I wanted to post the actual video so this can be viewed alongside.
